Yasuaki Matsuura
Yasuaki Matsuura is a Tokyo-based artist and industrial designer. Drawing on over a decade of experience designing cameras and imaging technologies, he creates camera-based sculptures and optical apparatuses that examine how memory is recorded, automated and externalised in contemporary life.
His works return friction, delay and physical agency to acts of image-making that are increasingly delegated to smartphones, cloud systems, AI and platforms. By transforming cameras into sculptural devices, Matsuura questions who — or what — shapes how we remember the past.
