Before a photograph is taken, two gazes collide.
Eye to Eye is a functional camera-shaped apparatus with no screen. In place of the lens is a hollow viewfinder, through which the photographer faces not an image on a display, but the gaze of the person before them.
A camera usually creates a safe distance between photographer and subject. Here, that distance is removed. Photography is no longer a one-way act of taking an image; it becomes an event charged with looking and being looked back at.
The remaining photograph is not simply a record. It is the trace of a moment when two gazes briefly meet in the same place.
