Before it became an image, photography was a movement in time.
Panorama is a working sculptural apparatus that reconfigures the rotating mechanism of a panoramic film camera into a pared-back physical form. To activate the work, the viewer sets the dial, presses the release, waits through the spring-driven rotation, feels the vibration, and rewinds the mechanism by hand.
Recording is transformed from an instant screen gesture into an event of operation, sound, resistance and duration. The work does not preserve an old camera as an object of nostalgia. Instead, it extracts the movement and time once embedded in photographing, returning them to an age of seamless interfaces and automated image-making.
