No one has ever seen their own face directly.
Reversal is a camera-shaped apparatus with a non-reversing mirror built inside. What the viewer encounters is not the familiar mirror image, but the self as seen from the outside. When they raise their right hand, the figure before them also raises its right hand. Through this slight reversal, a face they thought they knew begins to appear unfamiliar.
By taking the form of a camera, the work makes the viewer confront themself not as the one who looks, but as someone who can be seen, photographed and placed within another person’s frame. What returns is not an image, but the self already held within the gaze of others.
