Even when emptied of function, the camera icon continues to capture us.
SLR Icon Series transforms the familiar icon of a camera into a large-scale physical form, placing a mirror at its center. Although its recording function has been removed, the hollowed icon reflects the viewer, other bodies and the surrounding exhibition space.
When viewers try to photograph this reflection with a smartphone, they can no longer remain outside the work. The camera shape, the mirrored bodies, the device in hand and the resulting image form a single loop.
Stripped of function, the familiar symbol of recording becomes a field that absorbs our gaze and body.
